First Aid & Medical Emergency Training Courses

First Aid Basic Skills Update / Annual Refresher Course (1/2 day)
Continuous assessment is used to evaluate candidates. There is no final practical assessment.

On completion of training, candidates should have demonstrated their competence to:

  • assess the situation in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock.
  • The course should also include any updates or changes to relevant first-aid procedures.

 

HSE EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK (EFAW) COURSE - HSE approved (1 day)
Continuous assessment is used to evaluate candidates. There is no final practical assessment. The course is run over a minimum of one day.

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • understand the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures;
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

 

First Aid at Work (FAW) - HSE approved (3 days)
Employers have an obligation under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L74) to make adequate and appropriate First Aid Provision for their workforce. It is recommended that someone is able to undertake First Aid duties at all times when people are at work. This is a Health & Safety Executive recognised course which fully complies with Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L74 guidelines for the qualification of workplace First Aiders.

A First Aid at Work qualification will make a positive contribution to the safety of your workplace. After qualifying in First Aid at Work you'll have the essential skills to handle any First Aid situation, from minor slips and trips to the most serious of incidents.

On completion of training, successful candidates should be competent in:

  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.
  • Recognising the presence of major illness and applying general first aid principles in its management.
  • candidates should be able to demonstrate the correct first-aid management of:
  • soft tissue injuries;
  • injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries;
  • chest injuries;
  • burns and scalds;
  • eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye;
  • Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.

Course duration is 3 days with realistic scenario based exercises. After successful completion of the taught course and a final practical assessment, the student will be awarded the HSE approved and recognised, First Aid at Work Certificate which is valid for 3 years. This award is also recognised and accepted by the SIA.

 

First Aid at Work Refresher / Requalifier Course - HSE approved (2 days)
For those who hold a FAW Certificate that is about to expire. Your FAW Certificate is valid for 3 years and you must re-qualify beforehand if you want to avoid having to do the full course again. Course duration is 2 days.
